there has to be a limit between "East of the Andes" and "West of the Andes", but where does it cross ?
we've made the choice to use the peaks located East of Quito, Cayambe, Antisana, Cotopaxi, why ? because we think that a majority of the butterflies that fly in Greater Quito belong to the Western fauna, and more particularly the most common butterfly in the city of Quito, Catasticta flisa duna, a Western subspecies
as a whole this choice seems to work, but not for Lymanopoda nivea, as evidenced by this picture taken by Esteban Suarez at Pasochoa of Lymanopoda nivea sororcula, the Eastern ssp, when at Calacali or at Yanacocha flies the Western ssp Lymanopoda nivea bingo.
