Elzunia pavonii is a typical butterfly of the Vilcabamba area ; it is a common sight in the rather dry parts of Loja Province, generally between 1000 and 1800 meters, and down to 700 meters neare Macará.
but it also flies by the seaside, in wetter areas, at Ayampé (Puerto López) and at Cerro Blanco (Guayaquil).
