Pheles heliconides and Pheles incerta are two species:
- probably indistinguishable,
- variable,
- poorly documented, except maybe incerta in Panama.
in butterfliesofamerica nearly all figured specimens of incerta come from Panamá and Western Colombia, which is not the case of any figured specimen of heliconides, so we assume that, in Ecuador, we have incerta West of the Andes and heliconides East of the Andes, but we may be completely wrong...
