Catasticta susiana maja, Tandayapa and Nanegalito, Resrva Siempre Verde, Río Valle Viciso.
first named as a species, Catasticta maja, this butterfly has been made a philodora subspecies something like thirty years ago.
excellent, but anybody who takes an interest in Catastictas knows that Catasticta females are scarce, sometimes exceedingly, but he also knows that there is a very small number of species the females of which are almost common.
. Catasticta susiana happens to be one of those species where females are easy to find,
. by contrast the female of Catasticta philodora is extremely rare,
. and the female of maja is a rather common sight, looks like susiana females, and not like the female of philodora.
so, we believe it makes more sense to consider maja as a susiana subspecies until a thorough revision of this Group of Catasticta.
